Book launch countdown is a crazy time! Very few people see the process from the inside.
During the 3 years of writing PULSE I moved from Dallas to Seattle, to Palm Springs, and I’m readying for a move to Colorado.
Add two rounds of the C-virus (boo-hiss), and it’s been a minute.
I’m extremely happy to be closing in on launch day.
That gorgeous cover? An amazing design company, damonza.com patiently tolerated me for months while I narrowed 4 initial concepts to 1. Tweaking many, many times until reaching the beauty you see here. There are also different covers of the same concept for ebook, paperback, hardback, and audiobook—some still being finalized!
Changes are both strategic, and aesthetic. One difficult change was moving from the original warm sepia to pale blue.
Sepia was beautiful, but a book cover must instantly tell you what genre it is.
When large groups of people were polled, many liked the sepia but thought the antique color meant the book was an historical romance.
It’s a dilemma for authors. No matter how great a book is, if you’re looking for a genre you like to read, and the cover doesn’t tell you instantly—
So here we are.
